How can you not be endlessly amazed by being able to carry on the most inane and important conversations with a partner who not only has consumed all the world’s knowledge, but is indefatigable, and enthusiastic to a fault? How wonderfully cursed we are!
As to your point about immersion, I think Jimmy H. said something similar.
It’s so fun. Also, he did: “Wilderness prepares you for more wilderness.” I poach all the time. Good notice. Never thought of the wonderful curse concept. So true!
I will take great pride in my nanogram of mastodon mass. “I’m one nanogram mastodon,” I’ll claim with great pride in the same way people tell you about their ancestry.
Joshua, how you describe Yellowstone Club...these are not tears in my eyes, it's allergies for sure. You've named succintively and beautifully what I never could. I feel exactly that about where I work.
Thanks for reminding me to try Claire Keegan - feels like the right time to begin. The new Pollan is good, I think you'll gobble it. I've been keeping that particular Macfarlane on a high shelf until I feel ready to walk out my front door and never return because I suspect that's the only outcome of me reading it. Hope your tums and your bums settle down soon - if a little gross gratitude helps you can always think of me having a mean 72-hour bug in a blizzard with no indoor plumbing.

What are we, if not intellectual poachers, us all?

Hahahahah! Perfect.

I get it!

I like the idea of walking out and just keeping going. Maybe October I go do that for a good bit.
It’s been a lifelong fantasy for me. It does seem to reach a fever pitch around October - maybe I’ll see you out there.
